Since launching its initiative to seek Medicare coverage for comprehensive medication management (CMM) services, ACCP’s lobbying efforts have yielded important progress in educating congressional offices on the definition of CMM and the process of care, together with their benefits to patients and the broader health care system, acceptance within existing public and private programs, and potential for savings and quality improvement.
At the same time, the process of transitioning Medicare physician payments from a fee-for-service structure to one that measures and pays for quality and outcomes is now well under way. In light of this shifting landscape, the College’s own advocacy strategy continues to explore legislative and regulatory opportunities to advance its initiative, particularly within the context of evolving Medicare advanced payment models that have been embraced by both Congress and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
