Written by Leigh Ann Ross, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCPS
Chair, Pharmacotherapy Publications, Inc. Board of Directors

The PPI Board of Directors is pleased to announce several programs that will be showcased at the 2018 ACCP Global Conference on Clinical Pharmacy, October 20–23, in Seattle, Washington. These programs are designed to develop and enhance the scientific writing and scholarly pursuits of early and established practitioners.

In collaboration with the Board of Trustees, the PPI Board of Directors has created scientific writing and reviewing sessions that will commence on the afternoon of Saturday, October 20. The sessions will be led by the editors of ACCP’s two official journals, the Journal of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (JACCP) and Pharmacotherapy, and will focus on advancing both scholarly writing and manuscript peer-reviewing skills.

The 2018 ACCP Annual Business Meeting and Town Hall will be held Sunday, October 21, from 2:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m., where Pharmacotherapy’s editor-in-chief, C. Lindsay DeVane, and JACCP’s editor-in-chief, Jerry L. Bauman, will report on the current status of each journal.

PPI will also host an Open House on Tuesday, October 23, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. During this session, meeting attendees can have coffee with members of the Board of Trustees, Board of Directors, and editorial boards to learn how to get more involved with Pharmacotherapy and JACCP. Specifically, attendees will be able to interact and receive information in a small-group/roundtable format on these topics:

  • Developing manuscripts of interest;
  • Serving as a manuscript reviewer;
  • Bringing your questions to ask the editor; and
  • Becoming an editorial board member.

Also on Tuesday, October 23, from 10:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., PPI will host a session focused on the scholarly use of social media during a special session presented by Dave L. Dixon, “An Evidence-Based Approach to Using Social Media to Enhance Your Scholarly Career.”

Global Conference attendees are encouraged to attend these sessions and learn how they can improve their scientific writing skills and increase their involvement as authors, reviewers, and scholars. Moreover, attendees will learn why JACCP and Pharmacotherapy may be the ideal venues for submitting and publishing their scholarly work.

In addition to the topics and sessions highlighted above, the JACCP and Pharmacotherapy editorial boards will hold business meetings during the ACCP Global Conference. View the full 2018 ACCP Global Conference Schedule at www.accp.com/meetings/gc18/schedule.aspx.
