Relling Elected to the Institute of Medicine

Mary V. Relling, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCPS

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academies has elected to membership Mary V. Relling, Pharm.D., FCCP. Dr. Relling, a long-standing ACCP member, is Chair of the Pharmaceutical Department at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Professor in the Colleges of Pharmacy and Medicine at the University of Tennessee, Memphis. On October 12, the Institute announced the names of 65 new members and 5 foreign associates in conjunction with its 39th annual meeting. Election to the IOM is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine, recognizing individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service. “It is a great pleasure to welcome these distinguished and accomplished individuals to the Institute of Medicine,” said IOM President Harvey V. Fineburg. “Each of these new members stands out as a professional whose research, knowledge, and skills have significantly advanced health and medicine and who has served as a model for others. The Institute of Medicine is greatly enriched by the addition of our newly elected colleagues.”

Dr. Relling has made outstanding contributions to the profession during her career at St. Jude and the University of Tennessee. She is a past recipient of numerous national research and professional achievement awards, including ACCP’s Therapeutic Frontiers Lecture Award and the Russell R. Miller Award. Her current research focuses on pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in children and how genome variability influences a child’s response to cancer chemotherapy.
