ACCP Appointee Named to AHA/ACC Treatment Guideline for Atrial Fibrillation Writing Panel

The American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology (AHA/ACC) Joint Committee on Clinical Practice Guidelines has invited ACCP to serve as a collaborator and provide nominees for the interprofessional writing panel for an update of their guideline on the treatment of patients with atrial fibrillation. This is the second treatment guideline for which ACCP has been invited to participate as a collaborator. As with the AHA/ACC chronic coronary diseases treatment guideline currently under development, ACCP serves as the sole pharmacy organization among the collaborators.

The College wishes to congratulate Kazuhiko Kido, Pharm.D., M.Sc., Ph.D., BCCP, BCPS, who was selected by the AHA/ACC Joint Committee to serve as ACCP’s representative. Kido is a clinical assistant professor at West Virginia University School of Pharmacy and a clinical pharmacy specialist in advanced heart failure and pulmonary hypertension at the West Virginia Medicine Ruby Memorial Hospital Heart and Vascular Institute. He is an active member of ACCP and currently serves as chair for the Cardiology PRN International Committee. He wrote the chapter on atrial fibrillation/atrial flutter and stroke prevention for the ACCP/ASHP Cardiology Self-Assessment Program (CardSAP) book released in 2021. In addition to his expertise in the treatment of atrial fibrillation, Kido brings his experience as a member of both campus-wide and school of pharmacy diversity and inclusion committees at West Virginia University.

The College also wishes to congratulate two ACCP members who were selected by the AHA/ACC Joint Committee for inclusion on the writing panel on the basis of their therapeutic expertise and engagement in both organizations.
