ACCP members Marina L. Maes, Helen I. Sweiss, and Andrew J. Webb were selected by the 2025 ACCP Awards Committee to receive the College’s prestigious 2025 New Educator, New Clinical Practitioner, and New Investigator awards, respectively. The awards will be presented in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Sunday morning, October 19, during the Awards Ceremony at the 2025 ACCP Annual Meeting.

The ACCP New Educator Award recognizes and honors a new educator for outstanding contributions to the discipline of teaching and education of health care practitioners. The awardee must have been a Full Member of ACCP at the time of nomination and a member at any level for a minimum of 3 years; in addition, the awardee must have completed their terminal training or degree less than 6 years previously.

Marina L. Maes, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCACP, is an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin Madison School of Pharmacy and a primary care clinical pharmacist at UWHealth Belleville Family Medicine Clinic. Maes received her Pharm.D. degree from the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and completed residency training at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor (PGY1) and University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora (PGY2, ambulatory care/family medicine).

In recommending Maes for the 2025 New Educator Award to the ACCP Board of Regents, the Awards Committee wrote:

Maes teaches a variety of didactic and skills-based courses and serves as a preceptor for IPPE and APPE students and PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents. In addition, she provides quarterly educational sessions to medical residents and facilitates interprofessional education activities for a variety of students. She has a passion for developing inclusive learning environments and redesigned her program’s IPPE curriculum with this in mind. Her passion for inclusion led her to develop a pharmacy family program at her school as well.

Maes has been awarded Teacher of the Year three times at the University of Wisconsin Madison School of Pharmacy and received the Laboratory Instruction and Teaching Excellence award from AACP Lab SIG. She is an active member of the ACCP Women’s Health and Ambulatory Care PRNs.

The New Clinical Practitioner Award honors a new clinical practitioner who has made outstanding contributions to the health of patients and/or the practice of clinical pharmacy. The awardee must have been a Full Member of ACCP at the time of nomination, as well as a member at any level for a minimum of 3 years; in addition, the awardee must have completed their terminal training or degree less than 6 years previously. Helen I. Sweiss, Pharm.D., FAST, BCTXP, is a solid organ transplant clinical pharmacy specialist at University Health in San Antonio, Texas, where she also completed her residency training (PGY1 followed by a PGY2 in solid organ transplant). Sweiss received her Pharm.D. degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy.

In its report to the ACCP Board of Regents, the Awards Committee commented:

Sweiss was able to overcome numerous obstacles to create an independent, pharmacist-run diabetes clinic for transplant patients. In this specialized clinic, a clinical pharmacist independently makes pharmacotherapy changes to glycemic management regimens, provides diabetes education, and ensures medication access and adherence. This transplant diabetes clinic has been recognized nationally at the American Transplant Congress and is a model for other centers. Sweiss has over 30 peer-reviewed publications or abstracts and several national presentations. Three of her 13 peer-reviewed publications and 8 of her national speaking invitations directly relate to her transplant diabetes clinic and pharmacotherapy management with novel antihyperglycemic medications.

Sweiss is an active member of the American Society of Transplantation (AST), the AST TxPharm Community of Practice, and ACCP. Within ACCP, she is a member of the ACCP Transplant PRN and serves on the PRN’s Programming Committee.

The New Investigator Award recognizes an ACCP member who has made a significant impact on an aspect of clinical pharmaceutical science. The awardee must have been a member of ACCP for more than 3 years, completed their terminal training or degree less than 6 years previously, and have a research program with a substantial publication record that includes a programmatic theme or an especially noteworthy single publication. Andrew J. Webb, Pharm.D., BCCCP, is a neurocritical care clinical pharmacist at Massachusetts General Hospital and an affiliate clinical faculty member at Northeastern University College of Pharmacy. He also serves as a consultant for Grace Therapeutics clinical trials and investigational pharmacy division. Webb received his Pharm.D. degree at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston. He completed residency training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota (PGY1), and Oregon Health & Science University in Portland (PGY2 in critical care).

In recommending Webb for the 2025 New Investigator Award to the ACCP Board of Regents, the committee wrote:

In the 4 years since completing his residency training, Webb has established himself as a prolific researcher in the field of neurocritical care pharmacotherapy. His record consists of 30 peer-reviewed publications (including 23 research manuscripts), 14 published abstracts, and 39 poster presentations and exhibits presented at professional meetings. He has a Google Scholar h-index of 11 with 335 citations.

Webb is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) and ACCP. Within ACCP, he is an active member of the Critical Care PRN, where he serves as the Research Committee charge lead. He was honored with the SCCM Patient Safety Young Investigator award in 2021.
