ACCP Announces 2010 Annual Meeting Keynote Address

Training the Next Generation of Clinical Researchers: Challenges and Opportunities

Christopher M. O’Connor, M.D.

ACCP is pleased to announce that Christopher M. O’Connor, M.D., Director of the Heart Center/Cardiovascular Clinical Services Unit and Chief of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at Duke University, will serve as the 2010 Annual Meeting Keynote Speaker. Dr. O’Connor will address how to educate the next generation of interdisciplinary clinical scientists, and he will discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the profession of clinical pharmacy in its efforts to improve participation by pharmacists in clinical research.

Dr. O’Connor has more than 20 years of experience in interdisciplinary research; during that time, he has distinguished himself as a leader in the field of chronic heart disease and ischemic heart disease. He has served as a principal investigator for more than 20 cardiovascular trials including the HF-ACTION trial, the largest prospective randomized trial examining the effects of lifestyle intervention on outcomes in patients with heart failure; the WIZARD trial, a trial of antibiotic therapy in stable ischemic heart disease; and numerous other NIMH- and NHLBI-sponsored trials. As a senior investigator at the Duke Clinical Research Institute, Dr. O’Connor directs the heart failure clinical trials section, and he has published more than 200 manuscripts in the field of heart failure. Dr. O’Connor has also served as a primary mentor for cardiovascular fellows interested in training in clinical research.

Please join other attendees for this provocative kickoff to the 2010 ACCP Annual Meeting during the Opening General Session on Sunday, October 17, beginning at 8:00 a.m.
