Nourishing the Soul of Pharmacy: Stories of Reflection is ACCP’s newest publication. Reflection in this volume refers to stories, particularly of patient encounters, that lead to complex insights and improved patient care. Representative essays from senior professors and beginning faculty, pharmacy directors and new clinicians, preceptors and residents, Pharm.D. students, and pharmacists from industry and government offer critical reflection on experiences that promote greater clinician empathy for the patient and the development of a professional culture that values patient-centered care. This book is intended for a variety of audiences: practitioners, educators, and students as well as perhaps patients, caregivers, and health care professionals who seek a better understanding of pharmacists and the roles they perform. For educators wishing to adopt the volume as a supplementary textbook, an appendix for using reflection as a learning strategy is included.

The Resident Survival Guide offers clinical pharmacy residents a valuable road map for negotiating their residency experience. A team of experienced clinical faculty and preceptors discuss topics of interest to new and continuing residents. Chapters include:

  1. Finding a Quality Training Program
  2. Changing Your Perspective: Transitioning from Student to Practitioner
  3. What to Expect: Navigating New Professional Territory
  4. Clinical Practice: Taking Responsibility for Patient Care
  5. Teaching and Precepting: Assuming the Role of an Educator
  6. Research: Becoming a Scholar
  7. Balancing Professional and Personal Priorities
  8. After Residency: Determining Career Direction
  9. Professional Networking and Career Advancement
  10. Lifelong Learning as a Professional Obligation

Each chapter also includes a reflective essay written by a current pharmacy resident, giving prospective residents a personal account of what to expect in the year ahead. The Resident Survival Guide is designed to help resident trainees begin their residency experience armed with insight and advice from leaders in the clinical pharmacy profession.
