Definition: Academic Fellowship
An academia fellowship is an organized, directed, non-accredited program that builds upon knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities gained from an accredited professional pharmacy degree program and/or postgraduate residency. These programs vary in scope and design but intend to train individuals for a career as a pharmacy academician. In contrast to traditional fellowship programs which center on research, and residency programs which center on practice, academia fellowships immerse the trainee in all aspects of faculty life, including education, research, service, and in some cases, practice. Graduates from these programs are coveted as they have a solid foundation in all aspects of academia.
