ACSAP Presents the Latest on Primary Care of Infectious Diseases

ACSAP

The latest evidence-based information on the management of patients with common infectious diseases is presented in the second release in ACCP’s Ambulatory Care Self-Assessment Program (ACSAP). Infection Primary Care presents this important information in a variety of ways to enhance learning and take advantage of “on-the-go” technology.

Infection Primary Care offers 22.0 available BCACP recertification credits for posttests submitted before November 15. Chapters cover bone and joint infections, skin and skin structure infections, sexually transmitted infections, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis, and many other disorders commonly seen by the ambulatory care pharmacy specialist.

All purchasers of Infection Primary Care receive the online book, which is located on the My Account Page under My Online Products after signing in at www.accp.com. These PDF files can be printed out or saved to a computer (see Sample Chapter). Viewed onscreen, each chapter has hypertext links that place the reader one click away from official guidelines, patient assessment tools, open-source readings, and all the research articles cited in the text.

For example, the chapter on primary care of the patient with HIV has links to the guidelines for the use of antiretroviral agents and for the prevention and treatment of opportunistic infections; drug interaction databases from the University of California at San Francisco and the University of Toronto; screening recommendations from the HIV Medicine Association; an educational video for the first in-home HIV test; the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 depression screen; and the WHO Fracture Risk Assessment Tool (FRAX). There are also 50 PubMed links to the new literature sources cited in the chapter text.

Other learning aids throughout the book include patient care scenarios, which represent the application of chapter information to real-life cases; and practice points, which summarize the content in the form of take-away messages.

Single online ACSAP books start at $65 for ACCP members. The E-media Package includes the online book and a digital version of the text for tablets and e-readers and is $80 for ACCP members. Detailed instructions are available on how to use e-media files.
