A Closer Look at the Clinical Administration PRN

Overview

The Clinical Administration PRN was established in 2002 to facilitate networking and educational programming for pharmacy clinicians, coordinators, and administrators who seek to provide high-quality and cost-effective clinical pharmacy services. Members include directors, managers, and practitioners from inpatient and outpatient practice sites, including IT and academia. There is an active resident and student contingency, especially appealing to those interested in health system pharmacy administration. As of February 2026, the PRN has over 530 members, with almost 200 students and 38 postgraduate trainees.

Opportunities for Resident and Fellow Members of the PRN

The Student and Resident Committee is one of the PRN’s most active committees. This group is usually chaired by an early-career pharmacy leader and is composed of students, health system pharmacy administration and leadership residents, and other members interested in raising awareness and developing skills in pharmacy leadership. The committee provides learners with the opportunity for professional development, mentorship, networking, and collaboration with experienced clinical administrators. Here is just a small list of the accomplishments of the student and resident committee members over the past 2 years:

  • Received a PRN student or resident travel award
  • Conducted survey research with PRN members
  • Presented a PRN poster at the ACCP Annual Meeting
  • Moderated a webinar with a panel of health system pharmacy leaders
  • Published educational 1-pagers on the PRN’s social media pages
  • Coordinated the manuscript writing for a PRN opinion paper

In the spirit of developing leadership within the PRN, many former student and resident committee chairs have been elected to PRN leadership. In fact, the current chair, chair-elect, and secretary/treasurer are all former chairs of the Student and Resident Committee!

Other Involvement Opportunities

In addition to the Student and Resident Committee, the PRN has several other committees that trainee members can join:

  • Annual Meeting Planning: responsible for working on the proposal for the focus session in the upcoming Annual Meeting
  • Nominations: responsible for seeking nominations for PRN offices and recommending a ballot of candidates as well as identifying and nominating worthy individuals for ACCP awards, elected offices, and fellowship status
  • Communications: responsible for the PRN Newsletter and contributing content for the social media pages
  • Education and Research: responsible for pursuing scholarly activities related to PRN initiatives

The PRN also offers travel awards to 1 student member and 1 resident member each year to support their attendance at the ACCP Annual Meeting. Recipients will have the opportunity to present their pharmacy administration–related research project at the PRN’s business meeting. Applications are usually open throughout the summer. More information on the 2026 awards will be posted to the ACCP website closer to the submission date.
