ACCP Student Travel Awards

ACCP offers travel stipends to help defray the costs students incur when attending the ACCP national meeting. Student Travel Awards are administered through the ACCP Research Institute and funded by the Student Travel Award Fund.

How to Apply

ACCP student members in good standing who are full-time students pursuing their first professional pharmacy degree at an accredited college or school of pharmacy are invited to apply.

Applicants should submit:

  • A completed online application
  • A CV or resume
  • Two letters of recommendation from a clinical pharmacy practitioner or faculty member
  • A personal essay of no more than 500 words describing the applicant’s interest in ACCP and objectives for attending the national meeting

PRN Student Travel Awards

In addition to ACCP Student Travel Awards, the following PRNs also provide travel awards to defray costs associated with attending the ACCP national meeting. Please see below for more information about each travel award, including eligibility and application deadlines.

Adult Medicine

Description
$1000 award (to go towards registration and travel expenses to ACCP Annual Meeting) to provide an opportunity for a pharmacy student to present and promote his or her research efforts to the Adult Medicine PRN.

  • ACCP student member in good standing.
  • Adult Medicine PRN member.
  • Initiated the project during pharmacy school.
  • Conducted research in an area applicable to adult medicine.
  • Anticipate project completion by the ACCP Annual Meeting.
  • Abstract submitted for presentation at the ACCP Annual Meeting.
  • Committed to present results at the Adult Medicine PRN business meeting at the ACCP Annual Meeting (~20 minute PowerPoint presentation). Meeting will be held on Monday, October 28th at 6:30pm.
Application Requirements
Please submit the abstract and statement in one combined word document or pdf. When saving your file, please include the award type (ie. Student research award) and your full name in the file name.
  • Submit an abstract (using ACCP guidelines at www.accp.com) to the chair of the Adult Medicine PRN Training and Travel Awards Committee.

Ambulatory Care

Description
The Ambulatory Care PRN will award four (4) student travel awards in the amount of $500 each to attend the 40th Anniversary ACCP Annual Meeting in New York, New York, October 26-29, 2019. This travel award will help support the costs associated with travel and attendance of this meeting.

Cardiology

Description
The Cardiology PRN will award one travel grant in the amount of $500 to partially support the costs associated with travel and attendance for one full-time student pharmacist pursuing his or her doctorate of pharmacy degree with an interest or focus in cardiology.

Central Nervous System

Description
The CNS PRN will award a travel grant in the amount of $500 for up to one student and one resident who will be presenting a poster in the area of CNS (psychiatry or neurology) at the ACCP Annual Meeting.

Critical Care

Description
The Critical Care PRN will award travel grants to partially support the costs of travel and attendance of up to 2 students and up to 2 critical care fellows and/or residents at the ACCP Annual meeting.

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the student travel award the candidate must:
  • Be a student member of ACCP
  • Be a fulltime pharmacy student pursuing their first professional pharmacy degree at an accredited school of pharmacy
  • Have completed, or demonstrated significant progress in, a critical care related project under the direction of a critical care PRN member
  • Have an abstract accepted for presentation at the Annual ACCP meeting.
Application Requirements
The abstract must be submitted to the Chair of the Critical Care PRN Awards Committee via email by the deadline stated in the call for abstracts. The abstracts will be scored individually by each member of the Awards Committee, and the award will be granted to the abstract with the highest average score. If an abstract is submitted by a student that is under the mentorship of a member of the awards committee, that committee member will recuse him or herself from scoring that abstract. In the case of a tie score, the award will be determined by consensus of the members of the Awards Committee. For each award, the recipient will be required to present their poster during the Critical Care PRN Networking and Business Meeting at the ACCP Fall Meeting.

Drug Information

Description

Education and Training

Description
The EDTR PRN travel awards are intended to provide partial financial support to student(s) to attend the ACCP Annual Meeting.

Eligibility
The applicant must be a student member of the EDTR PRN. The recipient(s) must be able to attend the EDTR PRN Business & Networking Meeting on the evening of either Sunday or Monday, October 27th or 28th at the New York Hilton Midtown in New York, NY. The recipient(s) of the travel awards will be required to briefly comment on their experiences with ACCP, what they hope to gain or gained from attending the Annual Meeting, and their interest in education and training at the EDTR PRN business meeting.
Application Requirements
1) A brief (500-word maximum) essay, describing the applicant’s interest and experiences in pharmacy education/training; why the applicant is involved with the EDTR PRN; and how attending the Annual Meeting will assist with the applicant's career goals. The applicant is encouraged to highlight involvement relevant to leadership, research, ACCP/the PRNs, and activities indicating an interest in education. 2) A current CV, highlighting experiences related to education and training and ACCP activities at the school, regional, PRN, and national level; and 3) Two letters of recommendation from references who can highlight the applicant’s interest in pharmacy education/training, interaction and interest in the EDTR PRN, how they envision the travel award will help the trainee achieve their career goals, and the trainee’s involvement in research, ACCP, and their school’s ACCP student chapter if applicable. The candidate is welcome to apply simultaneously for other travel awards from ACCP or other PRNs and this information will not be considered by the EDTR PRN in the evaluation of the trainee’s application. However, the EDTR PRN’s travel award will not be awarded to a recipient who has accepted either an ACCP general travel award or another PRN’s travel award (i.e., the recipient must determine if they wish to accept the EDTR travel award or another ACCP-based travel award if more than one is offered). Emergency Medicine

Description
The Emergency Medicine Practice and Research Network (EMED PRN) of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) will award one travel award per year for each a student and resident to partially support the costs of travel and attendance at the ACCP Annual Meeting. Each award will be $1,000. Only one author of the paper will be awarded the plaque and monetary award. Submitter must specify the intended author of recognition. The recipients of the travel awards will be required to present their research project as a 10-minute platform presentation at the EMED PRN Business Meeting at the 2019 ACCP Annual Meeting.

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this award, the applicant must meet the following criteria:
  • Be a current member of the EMED PRN
  • Have an abstract accepted for presentation (poster or platform) at the 2019 ACCP Annual Meeting or the 2019 ACCP Virtual Poster Symposium
  • Student Award – the applicant should have completed the research project as a student; however, can be graduated within six months preceding the meeting
  • Resident Award – the applicant may currently be a resident or have completed training within six months preceding the meeting
  • Be available to attend the 2019 ACCP Annual Meeting Research abstracts must meet the following criteria:
  • Only completed research projects will be considered. Abstracts submitted as “research-in-progress” will NOT be accepted.
  • Research must be related to the specialty of Emergency Medicine
  • Reviewed by Institutional Review Board (IRB) o Statement should be obvious within the abstract (ie approved or exempt by IRB)
  • Abstract submissions should follow the requirements for submission to the ACCP Annual Meeting: http://www.accp.com/meetings/abstractguide.aspx  For additional advice for writing an abstract, please review:  Kane-Gill S, Olsen KM. How to write an abstract suitable for publication. Hosp pharm 2004;39(3):289-292. Each applicant may only submit one research abstract for consideration for either the Student or Resident Award. Students or residents who have received an ACCP Travel Award or another PRN Travel Award for the 2019 ACCP Annual Meeting will have to decline the award of their choosing so that only one travel award is received. In the event that the EMED PRN Travel Award is declined, the runner-up will receive the award. Although all forms of research will be accepted, preference is given to primary prospective or retrospective research, but the Committee understands some topics are challenging to conduct larger scale research and this will be taken into consideration for scoring.

Endocrine and Metabolism

Description
The Endocrine and Metabolism (E/M) PRN Trainee Travel Grant is intended to provide financial support for one or more students, residents, and/or fellows attending the ACCP Annual Meeting. Each recipient of the travel grant is required to give a brief (10-minute) presentation at the E/M PRN Business & Networking meeting. The presentation can be an endocrine- or metabolism-related clinical pearl, a description of a completed or ongoing research project, or a journal article review. Each recipient of the travel grant will be assigned a mentor (who is a member of the E/M PRN) who will provide guidance with the preparation of this presentation.

GI/Liver/Nutrition PRN

Description
The GI/Liver/Nutrition PRN would like to encourage students, residents, fellows, and new practitioners with an interest and relevant involvement in the field of gastroenterology, hepatology, or nutrition to apply for a travel grant that would help support attendance at the ACCP annual meeting. Examples of eligible projects include, but are not limited to: drug utilization reviews (DUE), quality improvement (QI) projects, and traditional research.

Eligibility
Applicants must be members of ACCP and the GI/L/N PRN. The applicants must be either a student, resident, fellow, or new practitioner. If selected, the applicant is required to give a brief presentation of their student, resident, or fellow project at the annual ACCP GI/L/N PRN business meeting. A total of two (2) awards will be granted from the following categories:
  • Student
  • Resident, fellow, or new practitioner (presenting residency/fellowship project from previous year)
  • New practitioner (defined as up to 5 years post Pharm.D.) The GI/L/N PRN reserves the right to adjust distribution of awards according to the number of applications received. In the event no applications are received for one of the award categories, award monies may be distributed to the remaining qualified applicant(s) or as deemed necessary by the GI/L/N PRN executive committee.

Description
The Health Outcomes PRN will confer travel awards in the amount of $500 each to partially support the costs associated with travel and attendance of ACCP Annual meeting for selected trainees interested in health outcomes research. Each awardee will also be given a 1-year membership to the Health Outcomes PRN for the 2019-2020 year beginning after the 2019 Annual Meeting.

  • Be able to attend the Nephrology PRN Business and Networking Meeting at the ACCP Annual Meeting and provide a brief presentation (~10 minutes) of their research or clinical project.
Application Requirements
Applicants should submit: (1) a current CV, (2) letter of intent (750 words maximum) which describes the applicant’s interest in nephrology, career goals, how receiving the travel award will impact his/her career path and, if applicable, the project he/she plans to present at the Nephrology PRN Business and Networking Meeting, (3) one letter of recommendation from either a clinical pharmacy practitioner or School of Pharmacy faculty member (letters from ACCP members recommended, if possible), and (4) a copy of the abstract submitted for presentation at ACCP annual meeting, if applicable. All application materials must be submitted to the Co-Chair of the Nephrology PRN Member Advocacy Committee via email by the deadline stated below. Applications will be scored individually by each member of the committee. The award will be granted to the application with the highest average score. If an application is submitted by a student, resident or fellow that is under the mentorship of a member of the awards committee, that committee member will recuse him or herself from scoring that application.

Pain and Palliative Care

Description
The Pain and Palliative Care PRN will award 2 travel grants in the amount of $500 each. The PRN will distribute the grants to either students, residents, or fellows based on the quality of the individual applications, and not the level of training. If selected, the applicant is expected to give a brief presentation related to pain management and/or palliative care at the Pain and Palliative Care PRN Business & Networking Meeting at the 2019 Global Conference on Clinical Pharmacy.

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the Pediatrics PRN Student Travel Award the candidate must: - Be a current member of the ACCP Pediatrics PRN - Have an abstract accepted for presentation at the annual ACCP meeting - Completed application (see call for submissions on PRN listserv). The application consists of a copy of the accepted abstract, a candidate statement, CV, and at least 2 letters of support. There is no formal application form. - Candidate statement should include involvement in the ACCP pediatric PRN, ACCP StuNET committee or local ACCP student chapter. In addition, it should include, what have you learned from completing your project, what are your goals at the ACCP meeting and your 5-year career plan. - Must be a current, full-time Doctor of Pharmacy student.
Application Requirements
Candidates must submit the application form and components to the Chair of the Pediatrics PRN Travel Awards Committee via email Elizabeth Farrington, Pharm.D., FCCP, FCCM, FPPAG, BCPS, BCNSP – Elizabeth.farrington@nhrmc.org) and submit (via email) the application by the stated deadline. The abstracts will be scored individually by designated members of the Awards Committee, and the award will be granted to the abstract with the highest average score. If an abstract is submitted by a student that is under the mentorship of a member of the awards committee, that committee member will recuse him or herself from scoring that abstract. In the case of a tie score, the award will be determined by consensus of the PRN officers and Chair of the Travel Award Committee. For each award, the recipient will be required to present their project during the Pediatrics PRN Networking and Business Meeting at the ACCP Fall Meeting.
