The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) was honored and awarded the 2025 ACCP Outstanding Student Chapter Award, which is dedicated to 1 ACCP student chapter nationally. The award recognizes the student chapter’s demonstration of leadership, dedication in patient care, and passion for professional development through its activities and membership. The University of Texas at Austin was presented the award with the chapter’s 2024-2025 Annual Report submitted under the leadership of J. Madeline Lampe (ACCP liaison). The 2024-2025 executive board members, Aldwin Martin (president), Minh Nguyen (vice president), Kevin Ngyen (secretary), and Han Truong (treasurer), assisted Madeline Lampe in compiling our many achievements. This year, the award was recognized at the 2025 ACCP Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, during the ACCP Student Chapter Forum.

SCCP holds a special place in my heart, and I am so excited to see that all of our hard work has resulted in this award. SCCP was the very first organization I joined in pharmacy school, and I am so thankful for everything that this organization has enabled me and others to achieve throughout the years. We will never be able to thank our faculty advisors Dr Frei and Dr Janzen enough as they have guided us for many years on our journey in pharmacy.

In the past year, the chapter had a 61% increase in membership with 37 total members, and it was the chapter’s biggest recruiting class for the past several years. A large effort was placed on strategically recruiting members because the university hosts a variety of student organizations that the local chapter competes with in recruitment. The chapter hosts various events dedicated to promoting dedication to excellence in patient care, research, and education such as student-led journal clubs, topic talks, interprofessional events, patient care events, and a Mock Residency Interview. Other events dedicated to serving the community include philanthropy fundraising events and volunteering through public health screenings.

One event that the student members found most memorable was the Mock Residency Interview. This event allowed prospective pharmacy residents to practice as candidates for interviewing and demonstrate their clinical knowledge in a patient case. The event hosted 26 student interviewees with 18 faculty and resident interviewers. This is a recurrent and highly requested event by fourth-year pharmacy students and is open to all members and nonmembers. Other events such as 7 journal clubs, 2 topic talks, 3 exam reviews, and 3 interprofessionalism events for first-year through third-year pharmacy students also allowed students to sharpen and dedicate their clinical skills.

The events we hosted were dedicated to promoting student development and professionalism that will help students succeed in their future clinical specialities. We are proud that our student members have multiple opportunities to lead these events and participate in them, alongside our increased social media presence through our newsletter and Instagram posts.

Student members continuously engage in clinical research to promote increased awareness and opportunities to participate as a student. Student members compete in the ACCP Clinical Research Challenge and Clinical Pharmacy Challenge consistently each year. Local competitions are held annually to compete for spots in the national competition. Moreover, the chapter held several fundraising and philanthropy events such as bake sales, goodie bag fundraisers for Dell Children’s Medical Center, and student merchandise to promote awareness of the organization.

We are honored and excited to have received the award on behalf of ACCP and The University of Texas at Austin. This award could not have been achieved without our members, executive board, faculty advisors, and the dedication of all of our students who contributed to ACCP’s mission and student chapter events. We are excited to see how our chapter will continue to grow and thrive throughout the next year.
