Series Overview

Clinical Reasoning Series is one component of the professional development program developed by ACCP and approved by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) for the recertification of Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacists (BCACPs) and Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialists (BCPSs).

This educational series explores cutting-edge, contemporary therapeutic topics, and demonstrates scientifically sound clinical reasoning and decision-making. It employs learning activities designed to advance the participants’ skills and abilities to critically evaluate the scientific evidence and to effectively incorporate into daily practice significant findings that lead to effective and safe patient care.

Program Content

“It’s Not a Sprint, It’s a Marathon: Keeping up with Hypertension Management” will provide an in-depth analysis of current strategies for the management of patients with hypertensive conditions, as well as discuss the implications for pharmacists’ patient care services.

Target Audience and Learning Objectives

Clinical Pharmacists, BCACPs and BCPSs providing care to patients with hypertensive conditions.

At the conclusion of the program, the participant should be able to:

  1. Differentiate between the 2014 JNC 8 and 2017 ACC/AHA guideline recommendations for diagnosis, staging, blood pressure goals, and treatment strategies for patients with hypertension
  2. Critically appraise the published literature surrounding treatment goals in patients with hypertension
  3. Explain appropriate utilization of home blood pressure monitoring and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
  4. Describe the management of resistant hypertension, including evaluation, adherence strategies, and special considerations
  5. Discuss individualization of hypertension regimens in special patient populations
  6. Evaluate methods for treating hypertensive urgency in the outpatient setting
  7. Design treatment regimens for hypertension that optimize patient

 

Continuing Pharmacy Education Credit

 

ACPE The American College of Clinical Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This is an application-based activity; Activity Number: 0217-0000-18-166-H01-P.

To earn continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credit and to receive your continuing pharmacy education statement of credit for this activity, participants must successfully complete a Web-based posttest by October 22, 2021. Partial credit is not available for this activity.

 

BCACP and BCPS Specialty Recertification Credit

To be eligible for 6.0 CPE hours of recertification credit, BCACPs and BCPSs must successfully complete a Web-based posttest by December 31, 2018. Partial credit is not available for this activity.

ACCP, as the official provider approved by BPS, will record and report recertification credit earned for this activity directly to BPS.
