Overview

These activities have been developed and designed for pharmacists who are planning on sitting for the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) examination in Pharmacotherapy. Created as a supplement to the 2019 Pharmacotherapy Preparatory Review and Recertification Course, the Updates Plus in Pharmacotherapy Webinar Recording will provide an overview of any major guidelines released between Spring 2019 and October 1, 2019.

Target Audience

The target audience for Updates Plus in Pharmacotherapy is the pharmacist preparing for the spring administration of the BPS Pharmacotherapy specialty certification examination, for Board-certified Pharmacotherapy Pharmacists (BCPSs) looking to earn recertification credit, and those seeking a review of the latest guidelines and therapeutic updates as they relate to the Pharmacotherapy examination content outline.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this activity participants will be able to:

  1. Analyze the major trials that have evaluated dual antithrombotic therapy compared to triple antithrombotic therapy for patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
  2. Integrate the most recent evidence and clinical guidelines for management of patients with AF undergoing PCI.
  3. Develop an antithrombotic regimen for patients with AF undergoing PCI.
  4. Evaluate current literature on the use of aspirin for primary prevention and identify limitations on current evidence.
  5. Select appropriate individuals for who aspirin will provide protection from a cardiovascular event.
  6. Distinguish best practices in providing guidance to patients on the use of aspirin for primary prevention.
  7. Assess which newer diabetes agents have shown to have an improvement in cardiovascular or renal outcomes in patients with diabetes.
  8. Evaluate which patients may benefit most in terms of cardiovascular or renal outcomes.
  9. Review characteristics of the first oral glucagon-like peptide 1 agonist.
  10. Appraise new clinical trial data supporting the use of a sodium glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor in patients with heart failure.

To be eligible to earn ACPE continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credit, participants must purchase the 2019 Updates Plus in Pharmacotherapy Webinar Recording and complete, submit and pass the Web-based posttest by November 6, 2022. Posttests may not be submitted more than one time. Partial credit is not available for this activity.

National Association of Boards of Pharmacy - CPE Monitor Service

Provided through the collaborative efforts of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and ACPE-accredited providers, the CPE Monitor Service allows you to electronically keep track of continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credits from ACPE-accredited providers. ACPE-accredited providers, like ACCP, are responsible for transmitting this information to NABP to be stored in the CPE Monitor system. Recertification Credit

 

The posttest will be made available beginning Thursday, November 7, 2019. To be eligible to earn recertification credit, participants must purchase for the 2019 Updates Plus in Pharmacotherapy Webinar Recording and complete, submit and pass a Web-based posttest by July 1, 2020. Posttests may not be submitted more than one time. Partial credit is not available for this activity.

Posttests submitted before the testing deadline that meet or exceed the passing point will earn recertification credit. Note that the passing point for this product will be established in February 2020, based on analysis of the test items by content experts. Once the passing point is known, recertification credits will be forwarded to BPS for those who passed the posttest and the credits will be assigned as of the date of posttest submission.
